Description Full-time Interpreters facilitate communication and bridge cultural divides between healthcare, education and social service providers and their Limited and Non-English Proficient clients. Services are delivered on-site in person, and via video phone to a nationwide client base.
Core Job Responsibilities - Grasp ideas spoken and heard only once, then convey these ideas in a second language instantly, accurately, completely and adhering to the style and intent of the speaker
- Provide cultural frameworks as necessary to bridge understanding between parties who do not share a common culture
- Maintain confidentiality regarding personal or healthcare issues or any other information learned in an interpreting encounter as required by HIPAA
- Travel to various locations within the defined region with unfailing punctuality to all interpreting assignments
- Assist the individual with limited English skills in completing necessary forms
- Submit required timekeeping or other documentation in an organized and timely manner
- Troubleshoot technical issues to include Internet, phone, and headset
- Record client and technical issues as directed
- Provide stellar customer service to clients
- Maintain adequate productivity levels
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Fluently speak, read, and write in English and in Spanish
- Knowledge of anatomy, major body systems, and medical terminology in Spanish and English
- Demonstrated exceptional communication skills, including conveying necessary information accurately, listening effectively, and asking questions where clarification is needed
- Must successfully pass pre-screening test (unless certified by a recognized National Certification) and applicable background tests
- Ability to professionally communicate with various diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Exhibit and maintain professional and ethical behavior at all times
- Work effectively with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain 82% or better productivity every day in VRI.
- Ability to follow the Break/Meal Period Policy and professional expectations in VRI.
- All time off requests must be submitted to your manager at least 2 weeks in advance.
- Ability to efficiently multitask when work circumstances become fast-paced
- Willing to accept all manner of interpreting assignments
- Ability to travel to multiple locations throughout the region.
- Current healthcare provider medical clearance to include Physical, TB, MMR, and varicella proof of immunity, COVID vaccination, and subsequent medical required boosters and vaccines.
- Acceptable criminal, background, DMV and drug screen verifications.
- Cellular phone, computer with Internet access and e-mail address.
- Must be available during regular business hours (7:00am – 5:30pm) and weekends if needed.
- Must maintain continuing education units annually
Education & Experience - 1-year Interpreter experience + 40 Hours Interpreting Training
- HS Diploma/GED (or higher preferred) or relevant work experience
- Must pass written and oral national certification (CCHI/National Board) within one year of hire date.
Preferred Skills - Comfortable with Internet and Technology
- Previous professional Interpreting training
- Knowledge of Professional Standards and Protocols for Healthcare Interpreters
