Job Description

Job Summary

This is a full-time second shift position on a team that is located at our customer's metal recycling plant.  This job performs routine maintenance on a variety of heavy industrial processing equipment in Jackson, Michigan.  Work is performed outdoors in a variety of conditions and may include some heights.   Rate of pay will depend upon experience.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks on a variety of industrial equipment, including but not limited to shredders, conveyors, hydraulic systems, balers, shears, and sorting systems, according to established schedules and procedures. 
  • Greasing large machine components, checking oil levels, as well as welding, torching and air arcing.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on processing equipment in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Execute repairs and replacements of worn or damaged components, including bearings, belts, hoses, cylinders, motors, and wiring.
  • Assist in the installation of new equipment and the modification of existing systems.
  • Perform basic welding, torching and fabrication tasks as needed.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Work well with other maintenance team members and supervisors to ensure seamless workflow and minimize downtime. 
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as required, potentially outside of regular working hours.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Ideal job applicant will have a strong mechanical aptitude, while experience in industrial maintenance is a plus, we are willing to train. 
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs and walk, stand, bend, stoop, climb, push and pull, work at various heights up to 45 feet, have visual acuity to read gauges and instruments, manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for extended periods.  
  • Work frequently requires heights at up to 45 feet. 
  • Ideal candidate will supply their own basic hand tools. 
  • Punctual attendance, reliability and dependability are key to this position.   
  • Must be able to withstand working in outdoor elements.  
  • Must be efficient in performing required tasks.
